Do you ever feel like you have so many things to do that your mind is spinning out of control? There is a job that needs your attention, including chauffeuring kids to after-school activities and putting meals on the table when everyone is ready for dinner. Throw in a stressful commute, and a job that gets on your last nerve. Where do you carve out some “me” time?
It would be lovely to unwind in a tub of bubbles while sipping a glass of your favorite wine. Put a do not disturb sign on the door and read a favorite book. Have you ever tried journaling?
I have always liked to journal. It has saved my emotional health on more than one occasion, and I have experienced much personal growth. When I look back and read my journal posts from a few years ago, I think, Wow, how did I ever live through that?
You don’t have to buy the fanciest journal. You can use a notebook or just some good old yellow-lined paper.
I get excited when I start writing down my goals in my journal. I am highly motivated and ready to bust down some barriers and start living the life of my dreams.
You will likely encounter obstacles and other challenges that require additional motivation to overcome.
Some of these challenges can drain your motivation. So, you need an effective way to regain it and move forward. Writing in a journal can help you tap into that motivation and continue.
A Journal Journey to Self-Motivation
Choose a Goal
If you’re like me, narrowing it down to one goal may involve soul-searching. Do you want to improve your health? Perhaps you’re looking to eat healthier or start an exercise program. Do you want to serve in the community? Volunteer at a hospital or a nursing home. Pet shelters always need volunteers to interact with the animals.
Record What You Want in Your Journal
Remember that this is your journal, so do not limit yourself here. Write down precisely what you want and why you want it. This is not about your brother, who excelled at everything, or your parents, who make suggestions that don’t fit with your hopes and dreams. This is what you want.
Perhaps you’re aiming to achieve financial freedom or find the perfect partner. Or maybe you dream of traveling the world or owning a mansion?
It doesn’t matter what it is that you truly desire. Just write it all in your journal. Then, analyze what you have written and decide which is the most important for you. You can determine the one thing that is more important to have in your life than anything else.

Discover your”Why”
After discovering the one thing you desire more than anything, write a strong “why” statement listing the reasons you want it. This is crucial and must be emotionally charged, so that when you reflect on it, you can find the motivation to overcome the most significant obstacles. Visualize yourself achieving your goal.
Now that you understand what you truly desire, please take a few minutes to visualize having it and notice how it makes you feel. It can take a little practice to do this properly, so keep at it. Write the feelings in your journal to refer to when you need motivation.
Write a Plan in Your Journal
You need a plan to achieve your goal. So, find some quiet time and eliminate any distractions. Ask yourself how to reach your goal, and then write down all the steps. Your subconscious is very powerful and will supply you with the answers. Revisit your plan regularly and make adjustments or additions as needed.
Final Thoughts
Enjoy your journal journey through self-motivation. Pick an action step and get started TODAY! You’ll soon be living the life of your dreams.
