We’re all busy with work, taking kids back and forth to school, keeping the house clean, and preparing foods that the family enjoys, while dealing with chronic arthritis pain. It’s easy to let things slip, and there are many nights I am just too tired to wash the dishes or fold the clothes.
If you are a parent or grandparent, you want to have one-on-one time with your kids or grandkids and talk about things that are important to them. When you have chronic arthritis pain, you may have less energy, so you need to make the most of this precious time together.
It’s not easy being a kid. Dealing with peer pressure, getting good grades, having a healthy body image, or dealing with bullies can lead to depression and low self-esteem.
I was bullied throughout my school days and kept all my feelings bottled up inside of me. I had no one to confide in, so I just kept my head down and buried myself in my schoolwork.
This is where positive affirmations can really help. An affirmation is a positive statement that you can use to help banish negative thoughts and achieve your goals.
According to the author and mental health expert Aline Milfort, M.S., MHS, “Affirmations provide confidence and lead to motivation. They also teach the child how to implement those affirmations when something negative happens, even when their parent isn’t around.”
Daily Positive Affirmations for Kids doesn’t take that much time, and it’s a chance to draw a card a day, do the exercises, and then talk about how they feel. It is a deck of cards with different affirmations and mental exercises.
Here is a good example: I am Proud of Myself. I am going to list three things I accomplished this week. Try this one: I am Confident. I am going to try something that pushes me to step outside of my comfort zone TODAY.
This is good bonding time for you and your kids, and you’ll be surprised how much you’ll learn as you work through the affirmations deck of cards.
